An inter-network consists of two or more networks connected to each other.

Point to Point configuration-

In point to point configuration A dedicated link exists between two devices.
Multi-point configuration-

In multi-point configuration more than two devices share a link. several devices are connected on a same link.

Topology-It is used to represent the physical arrangement of devices in the network.

There are two types of topology-

1) Physical topology-It refers to the arrangement of  the devices in the network and the way they                                        communicate with each other.
There are five types of physical topology-

1. Star topology
2. Bus topology
3. Tree topology
4. Mesh topology
5. Ring topology.

2) Logical topology-It represents the way the data is transferred from one device to the next.

Types of network-

 Network is a group of systems connected to each other performs communications like data sharing, time management, security etc.

1) LAN-Local area network

LAN is spread over a small area,locally connected in 1 k.m.distance.Same transmission media and same bandwidth.

2) MAN-Metropolitan area network

MAN spread over 10-100 k.m. of distance. It is used to connect computers in two or more networks.

3) WAN-Wide area network

1.It is also called internet
2.It is a collection of different-different types of LANs
3.It ranges all over the world.
