Great ROI
Great ROI
At times, we make expensive software/hardware purchases, and get no ROI (return on investment). Other times, one procrastinates buying items that cost less than a lunch, and yet provide amazing ROI. Here I list a few items I got over the last couple of years that I can only wish I purchased earlier.
- Better antenna for my router. No point on even thinking about it. Just around U$20 well spent (link).
- Password manager. I got a family license for 1Password (link). My requirement was support for Windows and Mac and Windows Phone. No matter which one you pick, you need to move on to use a password manager, and forget about passwords.
- CCleaner Professional. For little more than a pizza, you will have a cookie-clean computer (link).
- Squidguard. It is free, but you will have some configuration to do. Well worth it: navigating the Internet was never the same afterwards. Seeing pages mostly without ads totally changes your experience (link). And it ads "some safety" for the family browsing (although not that great in that area).
- NAS. I have two Synology devices, with WD Red drives. The result is absolutely fantastic performance. Only caveat: I got a model with a low-end CPU (the DS413j) that cannot do all the things of the models with better processors (like the DS1512+). Despite it still providing great ROI, I regreat not "investing more", because it would provide more return.
- Office 365. Kind of amazing how the install process got better. The process of creating/editing documents is way ahead of competitors. Sharing the documents across machines still lags behind. If Microsoft fixes the "SkyDrive/OneDrive" mess over the next couple of years, then Office will have a great chance of defending its turf with Office 365.

Cara Mengatasi Force Close Ketika Bermain Game Di Android
Apakah Anda tahu apa itu Force Close?
Apakah Anda pernah mengalaminya?
Ketika sedang asyik bermain game, aplikasi tiba-tiba keluar sendiri?
Atau saat apliksi sedang dimainkan kemudian langsung exit sendiri?
Apakah ini disebabkan oleh aplikasi di Android tersebut crash?
Kemudian aplikasi game tersebut menjadi Force Close (FC) padahal sebelumnya bisa dimainkan?
Baiklah, akan saya jelaskan dulu apa sebenarnya yang dimaksud dengan Force Close.
Force Close adalah kesalahan pada smartphone Android yang diakibatkan oleh ketidakcocokan kompatibilitas versi aplikasi.
Misal: Aplikasi A mungkin cocok untuk versi Android Jelly Bean misalnya, tapi akan bermasalah jika dijalankan di ICS atau kebalikannya.
Apa saja yang menyebabkan terjaidnya Force Close?
- Data app yang corrupt (temporary data, cache, game data, dsb)
- Koneksi internet yang tiba-tiba putus (untuk aplikasi yang butuh sambungan internet, seperti aplikasi chatting, streaming, dan sebagainya)
- Aplikasi memang buggy, atau masih tahap beta (versi awal pembuatan percobaan)
- Aplikasi yang Anda mainkan di dapatkan dari luar Play Store.

- Hardware smartphone Anda rusak (rusak di sensor, kamera, atau koneksi internet)
- Smartphone Anda diroot atau heavy modified (Android yang di-root bisa menyebabkan ketidakstabilan sistem)
- Kurangnya dukungan dari Chipset, game dengan kualitas HD biasanya perlu Chipset yang baik untuk memproses gambar. Lemahnya spesifikasi dari CPU, Chipset, GPU, RAM, ini akan menyebakan game macet(lambat) bahkan akan menyebakan Exit sendiri.
- Konflik antara aplikasi & sistem, mungkin ini seperti perintah aplikasi yang tidak terespon. Misalnya aplikasi yang perlu root sedangkan perangkat belum di root menyebabkan aplikasi exit sendiri saat dibuka.
- Konflik data Dalvik, data sementara (temp files), atau data simpanan.
Bagaimana cara mengatasi Force Close?
Cara mengatasi Force Close antara lain:
Restart perangkat
Hal yang paling dasar adalah mematikan perangkat Android Anda, kemudian menghidupkannya kembali
Manual Force Stop
Cobalah untuk me-restart aplikasi yang mengalami Force Close. Caranya dengan melakukan force stop manual, Anda masuk saja ke menu Settings > Application Manager, kemudian pilih aplikasi yang Anda inginkan untuk di Stop, klik tombol “Force Stop”. Setelah itu nyalakan kembali aplikasi seperti biasa.
Hubungkan Smartphone Android ke Internet / Wi-fi / Paket Data
Anda harus mencoba cek koneksi internet di Android Anda. Untuk menyalakan internet secara manual, Anda masuk ke menu Settings > Wireless & Network > Mobile Networks > Enable data access. Atau simply koneksikan ke wi-fi yang ada di sekitar Anda. Selain internet, Anda juga perlu menyalakan Location Service, karena beberapa aplikasi (contohnya Foursquare) tidak berfungsi jika Location Services di Android Anda dimatikan.
Clear Cache/Data Aplikasi
Anda perlu melakukan Clear Cache untuk mengetahui adanya data yang korup. Untuk melakukan Clear Data, caranya sama seperti di atas, masuk ke menu Settings > Application Manager, kemudian pilih aplikasi yang ingin Anda Stop klik “Clear Data”. Saat melakukan langkah ini data-data di aplikasi akan terhapus semua, dan biasanya Anda akan diperkenankan untuk login kembali saat menyalakan aplikasi tersebut. Anda bisa gunakan aplikasi Clean Master untuk membersihkan smartphone Anda dari data-data sampah yang tidak penting.
Reinstall atau Install Ulang Aplikasi
Cara ini sangat disarankan jika aplikasi Anda adalah aplikasi bajakan. Caranya, masuk ke menu Settings > Application Manager, kemudian klik Uninstall. Untuk menginstall nya kembali, bisa melalui Play Store.
Update Aplikasi
Anda harusnya rutin mengecek update untuk aplikasi-aplikasi yang bermasalah di ponsel Android Anda. Caranya masuk ke Play Store > My Apps. Namun Anda mesti cermat saat menginstall update, kadang ada update yang malah membuat aplikasi menjadi bermasalah.
Update Android OS
Anda harus mencoba untuk update Android OS terbaru yang tersedia bagi smartphone Adnroid Anda. Hal ini sangat disarankan untuk Anda yang masih menggunakan Android versi GingerBread (2.3) ke bawah. Apabila ada versi terbaru, ada baiknya jika Anda langsung update Android OS nya. Karena aplikasi yang muncul sekarang rata-rata bekerja cukup baik di Android minimal OS 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). Untuk melakukan update, Anda masuk ke menu Settings > About Phone > System Updates.
Switch dari ART ke Dalvik Runtime
Untuk Android OS versi Kitkat ke atas disediakan runtime alternatif selain Dalvik, yaitu ART (Android RunTime). ART bisa mempercepat kinerja aplikasi dan OS, namun sayangnya belum semua aplikasi kompatibel atau bisa berjalan mulus di ART. Karena itu kalian bisa mengecek runtime yang digunakan pada Android KitKat Anda, dan menggantinya ke Dalvik untuk kompatibilitas aplikasi yang lebih luas. Caranya, aktifkan Developer Options dengan cara klik beberapa kali “build number” di menu About Phone. Setelah itu masuk ke Developer Options dan pilih Select Runtime > Dalvik.
Factory Reset Smartphone Anda
Langkah ini terbilang cukup ekstrim karena dengan melakukan factory reset akan menghapus semua data di smartphone Anda. Namun apabila mengalami Force Close yang cukup parah dan terjadi lebih dari satu aplikasi yang ada di Android Anda, maka opsi ini perlu dipertimbangkan. Factory reset akan mengubah status android Anda menjadi sama seperti saat pertama kali Anda membelinya. Karena dengan cara ini pastinya akan menghapus semua data, entah itu data foto/video, data aplikasi, dan data update Android OS yang pernah Anda install. Caranya cukup simple, Anda masuk saja ke menu Settings > Backup & Reset > Factory Data Reset. Jangan lupa untuk mem-backup data penting di Adnroid Anda sebelum mencoba langkah yang ini.

Fixing the Windows 10 Start Menu
Finally! I got the fix that really worked from this page. Problem is: what really fixed the issue is not in the article, which describes the solution of running a PowerShell command. Ive tried that solution before, it never fixed the issue for my machines (maybe was fixed was that solution and what follows...). What really fixed it was described in a comment, and it basically demands deleting contents from the folder at %LOCALAPPDATA%TileDataLayer. Problem is: doing that is not that trivial, since those files are usually locked.
Here are the steps I followed.
1) Restart machine in safe mode.
A note here: only administrators will be able to log on in safe mode. Make sure you have an administrator account before proceeding.
In order to do this, you need to start a command line prompt as administrator. Even when the Start menu is not working, usually the "right click" over the Start button brings up a menu. In such menu, you will find the option to start a "Command Prompt (Admin)". Start that, and make sure you have a window titled "Administrator: Command Prompt". Enter the following commands:
bcdedit /set {default} safeboot minimal
bcdedit /set {default} safebootalternateshell yes
and now reboot with
shutdown /r
2) Delete contents of TileDataLayer folder for affected user
Assuming you are the user facing the problem, just enter the commands:
cd /d %LOCALAPPDATA%
dir
You should see in the directory list the folder TileDataLayer.
Small digression if you are not the user facing the problem.
Enter now the commands:
cd ......
dir
Seek for the user facing the problem, and enter the commands:
cd
End of digression: you are now at the equivalent location.
Enter the commands:
cd TileDataLayer
dir
You should see a “Database” folder. Delete it:
rd /s /q Database
dir
It should now be gone.
3) Reboot in normal mode
Enter the commands:
bcdedit /deletevalue {default} safeboot
Now the Start menu button should work with the “normal click”, and searching for programs and settings will also work. The Start menu preferences will be empty. What may not be a bad thing…

Windows 7 shows both date as well as time in system tray because of the new superbar.
Did you know you can customize it and can show the day and month names as well?
Here is a small tutorial which will tell you how to customize the date shown in system tray in Windows 7:
1. Type intl.cpl in RUN or start menu search box and press Enter. Itll open Regional and Language Options window.
2. Now click on "Addition Settings" button.
3. Go to "Date" tab and youll see the value of "Short date" will be set to dd-MM-yyyy.
You can customize it to show day and month names. Here:
d stands for day
m stands for month
y stands for year
You can use these 3 alphabets to customize the date. Following are some examples of customized date:
d-m-y will show 10-1-9
dd-mm-yy will show 10-01-09
ddd-mmm-yyy will show Sat-Jan-2009
dddd-mmmm-yyyy will show Saturday-January-2009
I hope you got the idea behind it. You can use any of the above combination to customize the date format. For example you can use:
ddd dd-MMM-yyyy
To show:
Sat 10-Jan-2009
4. You can also change the separator - to some other symbol or can remove it completely like ddd dd MMM yyyy

1. Bootloop

Hardbrick merupakan failed boot yang cukup berbahaya. Biasanya terjadi akibat gagalnya bootloader mendeteksi kernel, atau driver kernel yang tidak kompatible dengan hardware sehingga kernel tak dapat berinteraksi dengan hardware. Hardbrick dapat diperbaiki dengan JTAG.
Bootloop(s) adalah failed boot paling ringan dan biasanya terjadi apabila system memiliki masalah. Biasanya juga disebabkan oleh media server yang tak mau merespon. Biasanya bootloop dapat diatasi dengan mengganti ROM, memformat SD card, atau reflash ulang ke stock.
2.SoftBrick
Softbrick adalah bootloop yang lebih berbahaya. Softbrick dapat ditandai dengan hangnya HH pada kernel splash (Hank logo). Softbrick dapat diatasi dengan reflash ulang ke stock. Softbrick juga dapat dinyatakan sebagai Bootloop.
3.Hardbrick
Hardbrick merupakan failed boot yang cukup berbahaya. Biasanya terjadi akibat gagalnya bootloader mendeteksi kernel, atau driver kernel yang tidak kompatible dengan hardware sehingga kernel tak dapat berinteraksi dengan hardware. Hardbrick dapat diperbaiki dengan JTAG.
4.Fail flash
Failflash adalah softbrick yang tidak terlalu berbahaya. Biasanya terjadi setelah reflash stock yang gagal. Failflash memiliki banyak bentuk. Namun bentuk yang paling umum adalah logo PC yang memiliki tanda seru yang terkoneksi ke HH. Dapat di perbaiki dengan reflash stock ROM.
5.Recovery Failure
Recovery Failure adalah satu lagi bentuk softbrick. Namun kali ini HH hang di recovery dan bukan di kernel splash. Dapat diperbaiki dengan relash stock ROM.
6.Downloader Failure
Downloader Failure adalah failed boot yang mirip recovery failure namun HH hang di mode download (upgrade). Sering diperbaiki dengan JTAG.
Kasus Hardbrick pada android bisa di sebabkan karena banyak faktor seperti custom firmware - Flashing - Rooting - Pasang CWM - Modif/Oprek System - Ganti boot animation - Ganti Font - pasang chainfire dan masih banyak faktor lainnya yang bisa menyebabkan hardbrick pada android.
